Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Smart Charts ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information from people who use smartcharts.co (the "Service"). We aim to collect only what's necessary to run the product and to be transparent about what we keep.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

Account information: your email address, which we authenticate via Clerk.
Subscription information: name, billing address, and payment method, collected and processed by Stripe. Smart Charts does not see or store full payment card numbers.
Preferences: your watchlist tickers, paper trades, alert preferences, and saved screener presets. These are stored under your account so the product works across devices.
Feedback you submit: bug reports, feature requests, and "report glitch" submissions, including any optional notes you include.

Information we collect automatically

Usage data: pages visited, features used, and approximate session timestamps, used to operate and improve the Service.
Technical data: IP address, browser type, and device type, used for rate limiting, security, and debugging.
Cookies and similar technologies: a session cookie set by Clerk to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

2. How we use information

To operate the Service (sign-in, billing, watchlists, alerts).
To send transactional emails (Buy Zone tier changes, weekly digest, billing receipts). You can opt out of non-essential emails on the Alerts page.
To improve the Service through usage analytics, in aggregate.
To detect and respond to abuse, security incidents, and product errors.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertising networks.

3. Third-party processors

We rely on a small set of vetted vendors to deliver the Service. Each has its own privacy policy:

Clerk — authentication and account management.
Stripe — subscription billing and payment processing.
Resend — transactional email delivery.
Fly.io — hosting and infrastructure.
Anthropic — model inference for the in-product AI chat.

We do not transfer your data to third parties for purposes unrelated to operating the Service.

4. Data we explicitly do NOT collect

Brokerage credentials, bank credentials, or any tokens that would give us access to your real financial accounts. Smart Charts is research-only — we never connect to a brokerage.
Social Security numbers, government IDs, or other sensitive identifiers.
Location data beyond IP-derived country.

5. How long we keep your data

Account data: for as long as your account is active. If you cancel and request deletion, we remove it within 30 days.
Subscription records: as required by applicable tax and financial regulations (typically 7 years).
Server logs: typically 30 days, sometimes longer for security investigations.

6. Your rights

You can view, update, or delete your account at any time by emailing us at the address below.
You can opt out of marketing emails (we don't currently send any) and out of non-essential transactional emails on the Alerts page.
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under GDPR, CCPA, or similar laws — including the right to a copy of your data and to request its erasure.

7. Security

We use HTTPS, modern authentication via Clerk, encrypted storage at rest with our hosting provider, and the principle of least privilege for operator access. No system is perfectly secure; if you suspect a security issue, please email us.

8. Children

Smart Charts is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe we've inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us so we can delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be announced via email or an in-product notification. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.
